Amazing! A genuine labour-of-love and a supportive open source community app that exists to make EVERYONE a more knowledgeable person. I used this app tonight to win an argument about Venus (I was right) and afterwards became interested in how this app exists and who maintains it. Donate something if you get some use of it! Keep this wonderful learning tool available for others to discover.

Version: 1.13.3:Mars

Developer Response

Hi! Thanks for your supportive words. It makes all the difference. Glad you won your argument!

UPDATE 2026: 11th year anniversary update! This app has stuck with me for more than a decade, let this speak for itself. Efficient, unbloated, direct. 5/5, big thanks to the devs. ORIGINAL REVIEW 2015: Very effective. It has features i wouldn't expect it to have, such as find in the sky. The only problem would be the shaky screen; it keeps shaking a little even if i stabilise the phone.

Version: 1.13.3:Mars

Developer Response

Wow! So great to have had you along for the ride all this time. Hopefully it's less shaky now that we can use your phone's gyro!

been using it since I was a kid

Version: 1.9.6 - RC6

Developer Response

Great to hear Mitchell! BTW - it looks like you're on a pretty old version (as you say - you've been using it a long time). Care to update? The latest version ("Mars") rolling out now has a lot of improvements.

great app. is it possible to have camera overlay to match the celestial bodies?

Version: 1.13.3:Mars

Developer Response

It's on our roadmap. To set expectations, try using your phone camera viewfinder at night - you'll probably only see the brightest objects: the moon for sure, maybe some of the brighter stars. The other thing is that your phone's compass won't be perfectly accurate, so there'll always be a slight misalignment. That said, we want to do this.
