Proton Authenticator APP Review

Proton Authenticator is a highly secure and private two-factor authentication (2FA) application designed to protect your accounts efficiently. It allows you to manage your one-time passwords (TOTPs) seamlessly across devices while ensuring that your data remains encrypted and private thanks to its open-source foundation and adherence to Swiss privacy laws.

One of the standout features of Proton Authenticator is its offline functionality and no-cost usage. Users can enjoy robust security mechanisms without the hassle of advertising or the need for a Proton account. This freedom enhances the overall user experience, allowing for automatic backups and easy import processes from other 2FA apps for a smooth transition.

With the additional layer of biometric security or PIN code protection, Proton Authenticator prioritizes your digital safety without compromising on usability. The user reviews point towards a strong satisfaction rate, emphasizing its performance compared to common alternatives like Google and Microsoft Authenticators. The app also provides a friendly interface that many users enjoy.

Despite a few usability issues reported, the app's continuous updates show that the developers are actively addressing concerns and improving functionality. Overall, Proton Authenticator not only simplifies the 2FA process but elevates your online security, making it a fantastic choice for anyone serious about protecting their personal information.

Interested users can take control of their digital security by downloading Proton Authenticator today, witnessing firsthand how it sets a new standard in 2FA applications.

I left a one-star review because this app interrupted my workflow to ask for a review. I stand by my aggravation with that. Why the five stars now, then? Because despite whatever issues I have with Proton apps, it's one of the only groups offering us something other than Google. I'm paying for Proton because they provide me with some sanity in this enshittified world. I just need an email address, not Google with 1400 contracts for 1400 different services attached to it. Thank you.

does not import from Google Authentication... tells me the QR code is invalid

Version: 1.3.3

Developer Response

That doesn't sound right. Could you share more details about the issue? What are the exact steps you're taking that lead to the error? Are you scanning the QR code with your camera, or are you using a screenshot of the QR code in order to perform the import? Contact us at https://proton.me/support/contact?topic=lumo so we can assist you further.

Old bug, still unfixed: Importing 2FA codes from Google Authenticator cuts off after 10 codes in one QR code. Unclear if this is a google authenticator issue with QR code generation, or proton authenticator failing to import all codes properly. Otherwise, this works amazingly.

Version: 1.3.3

Developer Response

Thank you for your review. If you have more than 10 codes in Google Authenticator, the app will split them in batches of up to 10 codes. That said, could you share more details about the issue? What exactly happens when trying to import the remaining codes after the first batch? Please contact us at https://proton.me/support/contact so we can help.

Please bring pin option in applock. Now only fingerprint is available. Pin is much safer than fingerprint.
