Epic Authenticator APP Review

The Epic Authenticator app is designed specifically for providing two-factor authentication for the Epic electronic health record system. In an age where digital security is paramount, two-factor authentication adds an extra layer of protection by requiring you to verify your identity beyond just entering your password.

When logging into Epic, users can expect to receive notifications on their mobile devices. If you miss the push notification, the app also provides a temporary passcode that can be used for login. However, it's crucial to note that your healthcare organization must set up Epic's two-factor authentication process prior to your usage of the app. For instructions, refer to your organization’s guidelines or reach out to their help desk.

While the app has its strengths in security, user feedback reveals mixed experiences. Some users have praised its functionality, while others have faced challenges, particularly with the notifications. Inconsistent performance may leave users frustrated, especially when they're in a hurry to access critical information.

In conclusion, Epic Authenticator is an essential tool for those using Epic's health record system, providing increased security. However, potential users should weigh the mixed reviews and ensure they are prepared for its operational quirks.

I cannot even scan a QR code with this app. It stretches everything so square QR codes appear as stretched rectangles, making it unable to even scan the provided QR codes.

Mostly works for what it's supposed to do. Keep in mind that if you have more than one device with this app (phone, tablet) then the device that you authenticate this with Epic first will be the primary device, meaning the other device you can still use but you will always have to verify the push message on the first device every time. Other than that, if you use some sort of biometric (face or fingerprint) to authenticate, it may be hit and miss depending on the make and model.
